Project brief
V-201 is a jacketed vessel for aqueous oral-solution preparation before filling. Product-contact material records exist. Mixing range, transfer-hose cleaning evidence and alarm-response verification are unresolved. No real product specifications or operating limits are provided.

Activity 1 · Plan before you qualify
Suggested working time: 15 minutes.
Write a three-sentence intended-use statement and identify three unknowns.
Study the lesson notes and any worked example before drafting your response.
Model reasoning — compare after writing
Example: vessel V-201 prepares a defined aqueous oral-solution product family before transfer to filling. It mixes within the established batch-volume range and interfaces with approved utilities and a controlled transfer path. Confirm viscosity range, cleaning strategy and required measurement performance with their owners.
Activity 2 · Build a useful validation master plan
Suggested working time: 30 minutes.
Draft a one-page programme outline with scope, ownership, document hierarchy and three review triggers.
Study the lesson notes and any worked example before drafting your response.
Model reasoning — compare after writing
Include the project purpose, V-201 and its interfaces, engineering and quality responsibilities, links to requirements and protocols, deviation/change routes, status reporting and review after product change, significant modification or adverse performance.
Activity 3 · System boundaries and responsibilities
Suggested working time: 15 minutes.
Draw four interfaces for V-201 and assign an owner and evidence reference to each.
Study the lesson notes and any worked example before drafting your response.
Model reasoning — compare after writing
Consider jacket utility supply, temperature measurement, incoming materials and transfer hose. Reference the relevant utility status, calibration evidence, material controls and cleaning verification. Flag missing evidence rather than assigning an assumed pass.
Activity 4 · Write testable user requirements
Suggested working time: 25 minutes.
Rewrite “accurate sensor”, “easy to clean” and “secure records” into verifiable requirements with unresolved inputs marked.
Study the lesson notes and any worked example before drafting your response.
Model reasoning — compare after writing
Define the measured variable, intended range, justified tolerance and comparison method; define cleaning access and compatibility evidence; define authorized access, attributable records and retention/retrieval needs. Do not invent site limits.
Activity 5 · Trace requirements into verification
Suggested working time: 30 minutes.
Create five requirement-to-evidence rows using the downloadable traceability worksheet.
Study the lesson notes and any worked example before drafting your response.
Model reasoning — compare after writing
Include materials, measurement, mixing range, cleaning and records. Give each an ID, design response, verification method, evidence reference, status and open action. Use pending where evidence is absent.
Activity 6 · Ask a precise risk question
Suggested working time: 15 minutes.
Write a risk question for mixing and another for cleaning; identify one uncertainty in each.
Study the lesson notes and any worked example before drafting your response.
Model reasoning — compare after writing
Example: could incomplete drainage after cleaning retain residue that affects the next product? Clarify residue characteristics, equipment geometry and cleaning evidence. Mixing uncertainty may involve viscosity or batch-volume range.
Activity 7 · Use FMEA without false precision
Suggested working time: 25 minutes.
Use the interactive score explorer. Compare 3×1×2 with 1×3×2 and explain why a single threshold is insufficient.
Study the lesson notes and any worked example before drafting your response.
Model reasoning — compare after writing
Both equal 6, but severity differs. Prioritize the full failure scenario and evidence; examine uncertainty and control effectiveness. Do not infer an official acceptance threshold from the exercise.
Activity 8 · Turn risk controls into testable actions
Suggested working time: 15 minutes.
Write one control plan with an owner, verification method, completion evidence and review trigger.
Study the lesson notes and any worked example before drafting your response.
Model reasoning — compare after writing
For loss of mixing, consider suitable design/operating controls, status detection and a defined product-impact response. Verify the signal, alarm and response assumptions; assess common-cause failures and document residual risk.
Activity 9 · Read data before declaring success
Suggested working time: 10 minutes.
Calculate the mean and range, count results above 0.5 °C, and list four missing inputs before a real decision.
Study the lesson notes and any worked example before drafting your response.
Model reasoning — compare after writing
Mean 0.31 °C; range 0.50 °C; one value exceeds 0.5 °C. Missing inputs include justified acceptance criteria, reference/measurement uncertainty, operating conditions and representative study design.
Activity 10 · Capstone: make a defensible handover decision
Suggested working time: 30 minutes.
Prepare a one-page handover decision with evidence, gaps, owners, actions and conditions for reconsideration.
Study the lesson notes and any worked example before drafting your response.
Model reasoning — compare after writing
Routine-use readiness is not demonstrated. Resolve the mixing-range basis, transfer-cleaning evidence and alarm-response verification with named functions and controlled records. Reassess risk/traceability and seek the applicable authorized decision. Do not invent signatures.
Capstone self-review rubric
Score each dimension 0 (missing), 1 (partly supported), or 2 (clear and supported): intended-use scope; requirement quality; evidence traceability; risk/control rationale; decision and open actions. A maximum of 10 is a learning rubric, not a competency certification.
A decision that invents missing evidence or approves routine use despite unresolved critical gaps needs correction regardless of total score.
